Back pain is extremely common amongst people of any age. It is the most popular reason why people go to see a general practitioner. It is very difficult to treat back pain and more often than ever patients are given prescribed medications, or told to take over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs.

Back pain usually becomes a chronic pain and reoccurs in various areas. These types of back pain often include upper back pain, lower back pain, chronic back pain, sciatica, chronic neck pain, and neck pain. There is good news! Acupuncture can ease the pain and provide relief for all of these conditions.

Acupuncture is derived from Chinese Medicine, methods, and therapy, and it is a process where tiny acupuncture needles are inserted into acupressure points in the body. A person with back pain will go through a consultation with the acupuncturist first to express all of there concerns. The acupuncturist will ask you questions about your lifestyle, the stresses you may have, and what you want to achieve through acupuncture. The most important part of the treatment is to balance, or increase the Qi (energy) through the acupressure points. This energy manages and maintains the way our body functions. Acupuncture not only is amazing for back pain relief, but also treats a variety of other conditions, mental and internal complications.

People use the over the counter anti-inflammatory drugs all the time which can lead to unwanted side effects such as ulcers, dizziness, numbness, fatigue, constipation, and nausea. They may help the individual have some temporary relief, but they do not resolve the back pain issue or condition.

Oriental medicine states that when the energy (Qi) is blocked off, then there will be pain and when the energy (Qi) is flowing at a regulated pace in the body, the pain can be relieved. Back pain derives from both chronic and acute conditions and both can be extremely painful. Acute back pain is usually from poor posture or a personal injury of some sort, while chronic usually occurs when there is some sort of Kidney deficiency.

How does the acupuncture for a back pain session work?

The acupuncturist will put come to a conclusion and format your diagnosis based on Chinese medicine theory. Usually the practitioner will examine the tongue, pulse, body and ask you about your history of back pain and general health. The acupuncturist will probably have their own unique approach to therapy and acupuncture. There are two kinds of treatment such as distal and local.

Local is when the needles are inserted directly into the painful area. The patient only experiences minor discomfort when the needle is inserted. The distal method is when the needles are inserted into other locations of the body such as the limbs. This method is somehow connected to the pain in the back and encourages the flow of energy (Qi) to the affected area. With this treatment the individual will be flexible enough to move around during the session to see if the acupuncture is working. The best thing about acupuncture is that the acupuncturist designs specific therapies for each individual client. The acupuncturist will design a back pain relief therapy especially for that client suffering from chronic or acute pain.
