Acupuncture has been known as a useful method of losing and maintaining weight. Along with digestive exercises and acupressure, Chinese medicine has many benefits.  Realize that acupuncture is not a miracle method and it does not work for everyone.  If a person is willing to change their whole lifestyle, acupuncture can be a great help along the way to weight loss.

Acupuncture is the method of inserting needles into specific areas of the body and applying pressure. These pressure points somehow release endorphins causing the individual to feel relaxed, anxiety-free, and without worry. By creating this release it becomes easier to avoid comfort eating, over eating, and the eating of high fat foods, salty, or sugary foods. The endorphins also connect to, and affect the hormones and digestive tract, therefore, enhancing motivation, metabolism, will, and strength. Therefore, acupuncture is used extensively for weight loss and obesity treatment.

The Way it Works

Individuals begin the process by meeting with the acupuncture practitioner and undergo a consultation about their needs. Individuals must tell the practitioner all about their weight, weight issues, eating behavior, daily diet, and how it affects their mind, and body.  The acupuncturist will listen to the clients heart beat to identify health issues and energy levels. The practitioner will perform some simple checks on the stomach to see if it is swollen, and the mouth to see if there is dryness, or cracks. These checks can help the practitioner find out why the individual is gaining weight. The acupuncturist then figures out a point plan where they figure out what spots will help the client. The acupuncturist will use the individual’s ear as the number one needle point as it is related to a vast majority of body parts and organs.

There are many points within the ear that can target weight loss such as:

•    Stomach (for someone who continues eating after being full)
•    Lung (for people who like sugary foods and who are addicted to foods)
•    Endocrine ( for excess water in the body)
•    Kidney (for hormonal imbalances and excess body water)
•    Mouth (for the eater than eats on a whim)
•    Thyroid (for people with a very slow metabolism)

The needles are then applied to the points the acupuncturist thinks will work for the individuals’ situation. The needles are kept in place for around thirty five to forty five minutes and sometimes the acupuncturist will use electric stimulation to help the endorphins release to a further extent. This will also help the metabolism increase to a higher level. The individual will then rub the spot where the needle was when they feel the need to go to the fridge and eat for no reason at all. It will help release the endorphins, calming them and give them more will, and strength to walk away. When the individual first gets home it might be best to stay away from anything that may trigger them. This will help the individual to keep their will power as they take in the acupuncture treatment. If there is any discomfort, the individual should consult with the practitioner and ask them about any concerns they might have.
