Usually when you are at your doctor’s office or gynecologist’s office they will conduct a breast exam for you but you want to make sure you check yourself at least once a month when you hit the age of twenty. Many younger women feel that they are too young to find breast lumps but in fact there are now younger women who are noticing lumps in their breast and then once they have them biopsied they are cancerous cells. You would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to your health. The age old question for many would be how to do a breast exam. Usually they think they would just be able to feel around their breast and then find something but you should follow these simple rules to make sure when you are checking your breasts monthly you are checking properly. Here are a few tips on how to conduct a breast exam on yourself monthly.
Always make sure before you conduct a breast exam that it is two to three days after your menstrual cycle. How to do a breast exam is not hard at all but you need to make sure that you are doing it properly to get the correct readings. The first step on how to check for breast cancer would be lying on a bed or flat surface. You will then usually choose your dominant side first depending if you are right handed or left. Once you figure out which side you are going to examine first you will used the three middle fingers to examine that breast. Start in a circular motion up and down the breast to make sure you do not feel lumps. Use the desired pressure but not to hurt yourself. Once this is done on the first breast you will examine the next breast the same way.
Once you have conducted the hands on process of a breast exam you want to make sure you do not see any visible changes in your breast such as size, shape, or other abnormalities you may notice. If you do see anything or feel anything make sure to call for an appointment with your local physician immediately. It may be something which is just a mistake on your part if this is your first time conducting a breast exam but you would rather be safe than sorry.
Some individuals are not aware that men should as well check for breast cancer. Breast cancer does not just occur in women as many would assume. And the question will still arise how to conduct a breast exam when it comes to a male. The same steps are followed with a male as you would a female breast exam. They will be able to find a lump much faster than a few women but in the end no matter your gender, you can have breast cancer.
