Have you ever had jaundice, also known as yellow fever? Well if you have not, consider yourself lucky.

It is not a fun thing to have, but the good news is that treatment for jaundice can be done from home. However, before we get into all of that, let's talk a little bit more about what jaundice is.

Before you can talk about a home treatment for jaundice you need to know a bit more about it. First of all, jaundice is a yellowish discoloration of the dermis, or the membrane covering the sclerae. For those that do not know what the sclerae is, it's the white part of the eye, thus it is normally pretty easy to tell if you have jaundice or not. It's not one of those problems that you will need help diagnosing.

So what causes the yellow color? The yellow color is actually caused by an increased level of bilirubin in the blood. Since bilirubin has a yellow color to it, it causes the eye to turn yellow. However, enough about what it is, and let's get into a treatment for jaundice.

A good home treatment for jaundice is to make a paste from papaya leaves. The best way to take this is to add about a half teaspoon of honey to it. Eating the papaya leaves by themselves is more than likely not going to be too appealing to most people.

If you have the stomach for it, you can always add about a 1/4tbs of turmeric powder into a glass of hot water. This is a great home treatment for jaundice, but it does not taste great. On top of that, you will have to do this about two to three times a day.

Another very popular treatment is to drink lime juice. Now, some people do not have a hard time just drinking straight lime juice, so it's an easy home remedy for them to follow. You could also choose to make a juice out of fresh radish leaves. Although the juice that is made from them is not very tasty, it is very affective as a home treatment for jaundice. This solution should be taken about three times a day.

As you can clearly see there are a lot of home remedies for this condition, but they do not stop there. Some say that if you boil one cup of water and then add in about twelve leaves from a lemon tree, it can be a good cure for jaundice. The best way to do this is to boil the cup of water and then add in the leaves. Remove it from the heat and cover with a lid. Let it sit for a few minutes before drinking it. Do this about four times a day.

The truth of the matter is that jaundice is something that you can fix naturally. However, if you are not able to successfully treat it yourself then you may want to contact your doctor. Remember that you may have to try a few different home remedies for jaundice before you find the one that is perfect for you. Home remedies do work, you just have to give them a little time.
