It is very possible for the upper course of the respiratory system to be infected.

This infection often results in voice loss or hoarse voice. This infection is known as Laryngitis which is the larynx inflammation due to infection, overuse or even irritation. This inflammation could be for a short term or in the long term.

Laryngitis is not only caused by infections. Other causes of laryngitis include alcohol consumption, allergies, colds, larynx growth, cancer, allergies, anxiety, paralysis of the vocal cord, acid reflux, chronic sinusitis and vocal strain.

Laryngitis has varying causes as well as symptoms. Some of its symptoms include fever, difficulty when swallowing, fatigue, runny nose, hoarseness, coughs, sore throat, swelling sensation in the larynx area and weak, hoarse or absent voice.

Laryngitis, like any other disease or ailment should be taken care of by a medical practitioner. However, there are things that you could do as home remedies for laryngitis and especially ease the pain. These home remedies for laryngitis include-:

  • Gargling a mixture of lemon and honey
  • Sucking small pieces of ice. this is particularly done to stop or ease spasms of pain in the throat
  • Use of essentials oil- To boiled water add three drops of lavender oil, two drops of chamomile essential oil and the same amount of  thyme essential oil. Cover your head with a tent. The tent should also cover the pot with the solution and inhale.
  • To moisturize your throat you should suck lozenges.
  • To a cup of boiled water, and some drops of lemon and cayenne pepper amounting to a quarter of a teaspoon.
  • Behavioral change could also be important in controlling laryngitis. Quitting smoking and taking less or no alcohol both of which cause laryngitis could aid in controlling laryngitis. Taking more water and less of  the two substances is a home remedy for laryngitis.
  • To four cups o f water, add three large onions, simmer the mixture until syrupy. To six tablespoons of the syrup, add some lemon and a tablespoon of honey and sip the mixture slowly.
  • Gaggling a solution of sea salt in water several times a day also eases the strain
  • Taking a mixture of a tablespoon of honey and double the amount of onion juice.
  • Licking a mixture of  honey and 10 basil leaves  slowly
  • For the relaxation of the vocal cords and stimulation of the throat, take hot tea.
  • Ginger root can also prove a useful home remedy. Placing small pieces of a small ginger root whose skin has been removed, a small container of water. Make tea using the pieces which should be yellow in color or tan. To the tea, add 3 tablespoons of pure honey and drink the concoction slowly.

You could also make use of herbs which could be useful as home remedies for laryngitis. These herbs include eucalyptus, couch grass, knotgrass, plantain, ivy, primrose, elecampane, Echinacea, soapwort, pine, cayenne, mullein, horehound, elder, mallow, cardamom and stinging nettle.
