Today’s stress, heavy workload, insufficient exercise and wrong food diet are the main reasons for sleep problems.

However as getting a good night’s sleep is essential to feel refreshed and rested after a long day, most people turn to sleeping tablets for help. However a better alternative is to try these natural sleep remedies as sleeping tablets are addictive in nature.

  1. While talking about natural sleep remedies, the first thing to do is to make your bedroom dark. The best way to do this is to use blackout blinds and thick lined curtains. However if you are one of those who work at night and need to sleep in the day, a better alternative would be to wear a sleep mask.
  2. Make sure your bedroom is quiet as any noise can disturb your sleep. Use silent digital clocks instead of ticking ones. However if you live in a noisy locality, it’s better to wear ear plugs as natural sleeping remedies.
  3. It is possible to sleep only if your body is at the right temperature. So make sure your room is cool before sleeping by opening a window or using the A/C for some time. Wearing light clothing and using the fan also helps in air circulation.
  4. Reduce your caffeine consumption as much as possible. Caffeine is found not only in coffee and tea, but also in energy drinks, chocolate, fizzy drinks and in some over the counter headache remedies.

Caffeine is stimulating in nature and can make you restless even if you do fall asleep. If you find it difficult to completely eliminate caffeine from your diet, at least reduce your consumption as the day progresses and avoid anything with caffeine at least 6 hours before sleeping.

  1. As alcohol has a sedating effect, most people think that it fits as natural sleep remedies. However drinking alcohol before bedtime can lead to a fitful night’s sleep where you get up repeatedly at night, and find it difficult falling back to sleep. So avoid alcohol for at least 6 hours before bedtime.
  2. Regular exercise is very important as natural sleep remedies as it not only helps you fall asleep quickly, but also improves your quality of sleep. Moreover, it helps regulate your body’s circadian rhythms.
  3. Make it a point not to go to bed feeling too hungry or feeling too full. Eat regular meals, and light meals at night to help you sleep. Too much of eating before bedtime leads to acid reflux when you lie down.
