COPD, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is a serious lung disease that usually results from smoking.

There are many different conditions included in COPD such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD is a leading cause of death across the United States and the world.

There are some people who suffer from COPD who do not smoke. It is estimated that 10 percent of adults over the age of 40 have some sort of lung impairment that leads to COPD. It is more common in males than females. COPD supplements, vitamins, and herbs are helpful in suppressing COPD symptoms when taken properly.

COPD help comes in many forms. It is fairly well known that vitamins C, D, and E are of great benefit for COPD sufferers.  Omega 3 fatty acids are considered to be anti-inflammatory vitamins that can help improve breathing for people who suffer from COPD. Omega 3 is also known as fish oil and is beneficial in treating many conditions such as high cholesterol and COPD. Studies have shown that taking omega 3 supplements for COPD treatment can provide significant improvement in lung function in as little as two years.

COPD supplements, vitamins, and herbs should contain anti-inflammatory properties since COPD is inflammation in the lungs. Reducing inflammation helps you breath easier and allows you to be more active. Vitamin C and E are great sources of anti-inflammatory agents and are beneficial for many conditions. Vitamin E is a great source for preventing dry skin and helping many skin disorders improve. Vitamin C is a great vitamin to help ward off illness such as respiratory illnesses. It can also help strengthen the immune system so that your body can naturally ward of illness.

Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons but for COPD help you should consider taking a vitamin C supplement. It is difficult to get enough vitamin C in fruits and juices to provide you with the amount you need. Supplementing with fruit and juices can only enhance the supplement.

Two other supplements may also provide COPD treatment. Acetylcysteine is a very high potent antioxidant and has been known to be helpful in improving the tissue found inside the lungs. Glutamine is an amino acid that has also helped many people with their COPD symptoms. Drinking a glass of red wine daily can help provide resveratrol that has been known to help. A glass just before bedtime can help you rest better without the constant coughing that goes along with COPD.

Foods that contain soy have been known to aid in COPD treatment. People who eat a lot of soy products have seen fewer breathing difficulties than those who do not eat soy on a regular basis. On the same note, nitrates tend to make COPD worse. Nitrates are found in cured meats so avoiding these meats is essential.
