Home Remedies for Sinus Pressure

Your eyes, nose, cheeks, forehead or even the jaw can at one point or another become burdened with some form of pressure as a result of inflammation or congestion of sinus cavities thus the name sinus pressure.  The pressure can be caused by a number of things such as a sinus infection, which needless to say is the main cause of a sinus pressure.

Allergens like pollen, mold, dust and adenoids which are simply a collection of the lymphatic tissues in the throat right behind the uvula can also bring about sinusitis. Other conditions like cold of flue can also case sinus pressure. But before resorting to any home remedies for sinus pressure, it is good to first identify the symptoms.

Most symptoms associated with a sinus pressure are always mild. They are not life threatening unless accompanied by other underlying conditions. The only thing you will have to put with is great discomfort and sometimes sleepless nights. The symptoms include, sever nasal congestion and thick and pus filled yellowish green discharge which in most cases can be accompanied by tooth aches. In children the symptoms will include fever. If you are suffering from cold or flu, then the symptoms will last for up to ten days or even more. In extreme cases or rather in chronic sinus pressure conditions, the symptoms include headaches, double vision, cough, fatigue and redness of the eyes.

Steam treatment is one of the best home remedies for sinus pressure. There different ways that one can use steam. You can switch on your hot shower in the highest temperature possible then switch it off and stand in the bathroom with the doors closed and inhale the stream. Alternatively, you can boil some water pour it in a bowl and add two or three drops of eucalyptus oil to the bowl. Then burry your head in the steam form the bowl and inhale the steam. This will thin out the phlegm and reduce the sinus pressure. Using a humidifier in your rom can also achieve the same results.

Your sleeping posture is also one of the best home remedies for a sinus pressure. Each time you go to sleep, make sure that you do so in an elevated position. This will encourage drainage of your nasal cavities. All you need to do is to keep your head in a comfortable position which is a slightly higher than the rest of your body. To achieve this, just use two pillows.

Of all the home remedies for sinus pressure, the most uncomfortable one yet the most effective or rather one of the most effective is the nasal spray home remedy.  Simply rinse you nasal passages with a syringe or a saline nasal spray. It can be a bit uncomfortable in the begging but it will late be just as any other home remedy treatment.

If your condition seems to be worsening, then you may need to consult your doctor. Ask him or her to do a checkup and ensure that you have no other underlying conditions. Then have enough bed rest till you feel better.
