Vertigo is a medical condition related to the feeling of the environment moving. If the feeling is that you are moving or spinning then it is subjective vertigo, if the environment is spinning then it is objective vertigo .

Causes of Vertigo

The major causes of vertigo are either in the brain or the inner ear.

Vertigo can be caused by an inflammation of the inner ear or labyrinthitis often from a viral or bacterial infection and can be a sudden onset of vertigo and may include hearing loss.

Meniere’s disease combines symptoms of vertigo, hearing loss and ringing in the ears. This is characterized by sudden onset of symptoms, and periods of being symptom free.

Cerebellar hemorrhaging, bleeding into the back of the brain can create symptoms of vertigo. The symptoms may also include trouble walking, looking away from the side with the problem, headaches and dizziness.

Head trauma and migraines can also be causes of vertigo as can the tumor acoustic neuroma.

Symptoms of Vertigo

The presence of vertigo may also include other symptoms including nausea or vomiting, sweating or abnormal eye movements. It should not be confused with faintness or dizziness.

The duration of symptoms may be minutes or hours, constant or small episodes.
Visual disturbances, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, difficulty speaking, difficulty walking and disturbances in consciousness can be associated symptoms with vertigo.

When to Seek Medical Treatment

E-Medicine Health reports that seeking medical treatment for vertigo is essential when the following conditions exist:  double vision, headache, weakness, difficulty speaking, abnormal eye movements, difficulty in arousing the person or difficulty in walking or controlling arms and legs .

Hydration

It is important to stay hydrated, drink 10 glasses of clear water a day. Add a tablespoon of coriander seeds to the water overnight and then strain and drink each morning.

Citrus Peels

Add lime or lemon peel shavings to your diet as well as eating dark leafy vegetables and fruits in the diet. A protein rich diet is important as well.

Avoid

Stay away from caffeine, chocolate, fried foods, iced teas and excess salt in your diet to reduce the impact of vertigo.

Relaxation

Stress management, meditation and relaxation techniques are all an important part of managing vertigo. Stress will aggravate the symptoms. Relaxation is an essential part of health.

Alma Seeds

One teaspoon of alma powder (Indian gooseberry) with 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds should be soaked over night then strained and added with ½ teaspoon of  sugar to water as a tonic to improve the vertigo symptoms.

Gingko Biloba

A natural treatment for vertigo using Gingko Biloba can improve circulation to the inner ear and reduce vertigo.

Movement
