If you have ever suffered from thrush, then you know how uncomfortable the infection can be. You also know that it can make you to calculate your words and watch what you swallow. It is simple a nag in the mouth.

Basically, thrush is a fungus infection just like the other fungal infection.

The only difference is that it occurs in the mouth. The infection has several names which needless to say, can confuse the patient. It is referred to as tongue thrush, oral thrush, white tongue or oral candida. The appearance of unpleasant whitish spots and creamy white lesions which look like milk curd or cottage cheese on the tongue and inner cheeks is the most common symptom of thrush. Cracked mouth corners and difficulty in swallowing food are other symptoms though not so common. If left untreated, the infection can swiftly spread to other parts of the mouth like the gums or the mouth roof. Prompt treatment is therefore extremely necessary.

Before resorting to any home remedy for thrush, it is important to watch your habits some of which may be the actual cause of a thrush infection. First, make sure that you always brush your teeth after every meal and before going to bed. Brushing can be done but still one gets the infection. This may occur if you do not brush your teeth and wash your mouth well. If you do not like brushing, then use a strong mouth gargle like Listerine. Then if you are a smoker, cut down on smoking or try to quit it.

Then keep in mind that appearance of thrush does not mean you do not practice high dental hygiene standards. Thrush can be brought about by other factors such as a weak immune system, AIDs, dry mouth, certain medication used by asthmatic patients like corticosteroids, effects of cancer treatments and diabetes. If you suffer from any of these conditions, then do not be surprised if you get thrush.

Contrary to what many people do, the best home remedy for thrush is not scrapping it off. In most cases, scrapping thrush or brushing it hard may cause bleeding and pain which may worsen the condition.  The following homemade gargle is the best home remedy for thrush.

Simply add one or two drops of oregano oil or tea tree oil in a cup or water. Then get a warm cup of water and dissolve half a table spoon of salt in it. Dissolve at most three teaspoons of baking soda in a glass of warm water and mix well an equal part of three percent hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount of water. Steep some goldenseal root tea bags or the liquid extract in hot water and once it has cooled thoroughly rinse your mouth with this herbal tea. Then gargle with a mixture of one tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with a cup of warm water. Do not swallow this solution. Just spit it out.

For best results gargle with the solution until you begin to see the thrush disappearing. Other home remedies like garlic, clove oil or golden seal root may be used. If the condition worsens then see your dentist for advanced medical treatment.
