A home gym rack is an important part of your home gyms equipment that lets you safely lift heavier weights. These gym racks are also called a power rack, power cage, squat rack or squat cage and is especially important if you work out alone at home.

Power cages provide for a safe free weight workout using barbells without any movement restrictions.

This weight rack for home gym does not take too much space as it is compact with a few other pieces of weight training equipment.

Benefits

The benefit of using a home gym rack during weight training is that it is safe and possible to do a safe free weight workout as when dropped; weights get caught by side bars. It is possible to carry out a range of exercises in a power cage like squat, over-head presses and partial deadlifts.

What to look out for

1.    Make sure you buy a good quality home gym rack. Don’t opt for the cheapest option available, it usually is not that strong or long-lasting. However there are some instances where cheaper racks are worth investing in.

2.    If you are thinking of buying your home gym rack online, visit some message boards and forums to find out what other people have to say about the rack. Generally, the more positive reviews and feedback a home gyms equipment has the better it is.

3.    Most racks come with a chin up bar attached; however there are a few that don’t have it. Make sure you buy one with a chin up bar, lest you have to buy another piece of equipment to perform chin ups. If you buy a chin up bar with your squat rack, it will not take up any additional space.

4.    The squat rack you buy should have a dip bar attachment. There are some great power racks that offer this attachment with the rack, and some that charge extra while including the bar as an optional home gyms equipment.

5.    The power rack you buy should have outer pins so that you can set your barbell on it while doing exercises outside the rack. Sometimes the rack may not be tall enough for you to do standing barbell overhead press, in which case, you have to carry the bar on the outside of the rack.

Though there are taller racks available, not all home will have sufficient ceiling height to enclose a taller rack. However be careful while exercising outside the rack as there is nothing there to catch the weights if they fall.
