Fever blisters, otherwise known as cold sores, are infections often caused by herpes virus. The sores can be uncomfortable itchy and quite painful. Treatment for the blister remedies should be prompt and be administered on the patient as soon as a breakout occurs. If ignored or left untreated, the condition will worsen and become life threatening.

There are several blister home remedies but they should be considered with the recommendation of a doctor. This is not because they are not effective but rather because some of the may react negatively, with medical treatments.

Always keep in mind that the herpes virus is highly infectious. Therefore taking time to quarantine the sores as soon as they begin to appear is the first thing you should do. Avoid touching the sores so as to prevent them from spreading to the other areas of your body. Then avoid coming in contact with other people or sharing clothes, towels and such like this. Just wash the blisters with soap and an anti bacterial or disinfectant.

If the sores have found a way to your mouth, change your toothbrush often and ensure that after every outbreak, you use a new toothbrush. This way, you will prevent reinfection yourself and worsening the situation. Keep in mind that most over the counter dugs for the sores only offer intermittent relief. They are meant for use on the onset of the blisters only but they cannot get rid of the underlying cause of the blisters which is the most important thing. Therefore, immediately after consuming the drugs or using fever blister home remedies, consult your doctor.

Icing the sores is one of the best home remedies for the fever blisters. You can easily do this using cold compression. Ice the sores gently but make sure that you do not do so for more than fifteen minutes. Whole milk compress can also be used of fever blisters. The method is easy just like using cold compress and is even more effective. When using whole milk compress, use the pack at room temperature. Then as soon as you are through, wash your skin.

A mixture of equal parts of calendula, burdock, oats, lomatium and Echinacea may also be used for fever blisters. Simply take half a teaspoon of the mixture for or five times daily so as to get rid of the harmful toxins from your body, to sooth the inflammation tissue and to kill virus and bacteria. Lemon balm extract may also be used to speed up the healing process and reduce the symptoms. Aloe Vera gel too can be used for the same purpose as it is really effective when it comes to most skin disorders.

Avoid foods and snacks that contain nuts, chocolates, peanuts, peas, grains, oatmeal and whole wheat products.  They will only worsen the condition. Just maintain a normal balanced diet full of leafy vegetables, water and fruits. Then as already said, consult your doctor as soon as possible for advanced medical treatment.
