Damaged hair is a consequence of various factors like a wrong diet, environmental pollution and dye in chemicals. While there are various hair care products available to treat your hair, home remedies for damaged hair provide a cheaper and better treatment option.

Though its results may not be as good as these products, they do provide a quick fix.

The most popular of home remedies for damaged hair is the mayonnaise treatment. With this treatment, you just have to apply mayonnaise to your hair before sleeping. Cover your hair with mayonnaise all night, cover with a shower cap and wash it as usual the next morning. If not overnight, at least leave the mayonnaise on for 20 minutes before you rinse and wash using your normal shampoo.

Another treatment option you have involves mixing honey and eggs and applying to hair. This has to be left on for 10 minutes and then washed off.

You can also use egg white for home remedies for damaged hair. Carefully crack an egg open into a small bowl so that the white only falls out and the yolk remains inside. Using a whisk or fork, whisk the egg whites while the egg yolk has to be blended in a blender with some water till smooth. Next, you have to first rinse your hair with hot water and then apply and massage the mixture into your hair. Finally rinse off with cold water.

Beer figures in the list of hair remedies for damaged hair. Rinsing your hair with beer brings back the shine to your hair.

Alternatively, you can mash some avocados or bananas to create a hair mask. Leave the mask on your hair for about 15 minutes, and then rinse off.

Olive oil is also used in home remedies for damaged hair. All you have to do is mix a tablespoon of olive oil, an egg and a few slices of cucumber together in a blender and smooth the mixture on your hair for 10 minutes. Then, wash off as usual.

Coconut oil is not only great for dry hair treatment; it is also a conditioner that provides the necessary proteins to nourish your hair. If your coconut oil is solid, melt a scoop of it in a microwave till it liquefies.

For better nourishment and hair texture, add some curry leaves to the oil and boil for 2-3 minutes. Apply this mixture to your hair when it is warm, and massage it on your scalp and hair. Pile your hair, place a shower cap on it and set aside for at least 20 minutes. Then, shampoo well to remove the oil and condition as you normally do.

Instead of looking for home remedies for damaged hair, it’s better to prevent damage to your hair. Do this by avoiding shampoos which sulfate. While sulfate helps create suds, it robs your hair of moisture. Avoid excessive coloring of hair as the chemicals in them just give more damage to your hair. Follow a healthy diet with more proteins, B-complex, iron and of course, carbohydrates.
