The first thing you can do to make the painful leg cramp go way is to walk on or jiggle the affected leg and elevate it. Then straighten the affected leg and flex the affected foot towards the knee. Grab your toes and pull then towards your knee till you feel your calf muscles stretching. It is also possible to undo a painful leg cramp with ice. It is a pain reliever as well as an anti-inflammatory agent. Simply massage the affected area with ice till you note that the area turns to bright red. This is an indication that blood cells are now returning to heat the cramped muscle. Heat can also be used for the same purpose. It makes the muscles more flexible and improves superficial blood circulation. Just take a hot shower or use a hot water bottle on the affected area for at least 20 minutes. Lastly, remember that cramps often occur as a result of dehydration amongst other things. Drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated. Then avoid keeping your muscles inactive for too long, like sitting in one area without moving a muscle.
