if your nose and sinus is clean, then bacteria and allergens wont be able to build up and cause you grief. To do this use a betti neti pot. Its a ceramic made neti, made in the US and is pretty enough to sit on your counter unlike the other neti's that just look foreign and strange. i have a pretty red one and use it everyday because it can sit on my counter. and i dont feel miserable anymore! its crazy what a little water and salt can do!
